Dr Paul McShane
A national and internationally renowned marine biologist and consultant, Dr McShane produced a report and letter suggesting Billy Lights Point was not an appropriate place for dispersal of hyper-saline solutions due to its shallow waters and low energy tidal flows.

A/Professor Jochen Kaempf
An Oceanographer at Flinders University, Professor Kaempf wrote a report in August 2021 outlining the ecological significance and flushing capacity of the Boston Bay and Proper Bay areas, concluding they ‘are not suitable sites for the continuous discharge of desalination brine.’

A research scientist for SARDI, Dr Rogers wrote a report in July 2021 noting amongst other things the type of acids and chemical discharged (e.g. sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid) and the risk to juvenile marine life being sucked into the intake pipes.
