Which political candidates have committed against a desal plant at BLP, and who has not

The Hands off Boston Bay coalition recently reached out to candidates contesting the state seat of Flinders, the South Australian Senate, and to Federal politicians to ask who opposes Billy Lights Point as a suitable location for a desalination plant. Below are the candidates and parties who said no to a desal plant at Billy Lights Point, and those that did not commit. The Hands off Boston Bay coalition is calling for voters in the state seat of Flinders, and those in the federal seat of Grey to give their votes to candidates that oppose a desal plant at Billy Lights Point.

Those opposed to a desal plant at Billy Lights Point are:

• Federal Independent, Senator Rex Patrick

• SA Nationals, Lillian Poynter and Emma Richardson

• State Independent, Liz Habermann,

• SA Greens, Kathryn Hardwick-Franco

While Liberal hopeful Sam Telfer has opposed the development in his capacity as Mayor, the Liberal Party and the Water Minister David Spiers have not ruled the site out in spite of representations by leading marine scientists like Dr Paul McShane and Professor Jochen Kaempf, and by the aquaculture, fishing, tourism, and local business community.

Similarly, Labor has also refused to rule it out.
